CHALLENGE:
Traditional fire detectors are designed to monitor the by-products of fire. Smoke detectors are triggered by smoke, heat detectors by heat. In a facility with a very high ceiling, this presents an insurmountable problem: the time taken for heat to radiate or for smoke to rise to the detector. The risk is that by the time the by-products have been detected, the fire has already taken hold.
Access also presents a major problem for facilities with high ceilings. It is a requirement of smoke and heat detectors that they are mounted at the highest possible point, which makes access for maintenance, repair and calibration a much greater challenge, leading to downtime for the facility and risk to the technicians.
SOLUTION:
The FCam System detects the fire itself not the by-products. This does away with build up time. With their range of more than 100m, FCam detectors can be mounted at height with no loss of effectiveness, allowing for a fast suppression response. Additionally, there is no requirement for FCam detectors to be mounted at the highest point, reducing the risk to maintenance technicians and minimising facility downtime.
